in a nutshell it is a single sign on portal to all nhb services & repositories. all advanced search tools is provided for the user to search all nhb websites and repositories. h-portal also aims to provide social networking and pics/videos sharing features so tat communites can share their memories, etc, and engage in live chats. the portal aspires to be highly personalisable and user are able to add an optional portlets. other useful features inculdes email, documents storage , rss , etc...

yahh. anyway this is happening now at suntec tropic atrim. there is a singapore heritage fest happening there. they are showin stuff related to heritage and culture thingy. if ur interested maybe u can go down and take a look or something. LOL. but 27jully is the last day. its open from 10am-7pm. performances starts from 1pm-7pm. hehes.

Men and Women

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that, in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. ‘House’ for instance, is feminine: ‘la casa.’

‘Pencil,’ however, is masculine: ‘el lapiz.’

So, a student asked, ‘What gender is computer’?’

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether ‘computer’ should be a masculine or a feminine noun.

Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men’s group decided that ‘computer’ should definitely be of
the feminine gender (’la Computadora’), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

(THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women’s group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine (’el computador’), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

We have to keep to a very tight schedule to avoid over running and eating into the timetable of other subjects.

In view of the need to be fair, you will have to load your ppts into the computer regardless of whether you are presenting on the first or second day. We do not want unfairness whereby the people on the second day have an extra 24 hrs to work on their project. We will also be very particular about the attendance for both days. You have to be there whether u have presented or not. Learning from peer depends on staying on and viewing each other’s presentations. You will also be peer marking each other so you cannot mark if you are not present. All absentees will be dealt with concern and deep interest.

The ones that have consistently been absent or not punctual, and you know who you are, we hope you have been consulting staff other than your class lecturer. If you have not then, you have only generated more difficulties for yourself. The school does not have a punitive 85% regulation but we hope your self discipline will ensure punctual attendance for the event tomorrow and the day after.

Come in before 9 am tomorrow to load your work, we start at 9 am sharp.
