Here is an email from KH sent to all on details for P1 Crit.
(JIA YOU, PIDIANS !!! :] GOGOGOOOOOOO !)
Hi All,
OK, have managed to request for moving back the PID P1 Crit as some of our students has attended Prof Wada’s classes and we felt we could do well to add the needed time. I have also reminded the class reps that if they need to have workshop hours they have to send in their request in advance. Thanks Mdm Tia and Helen for helping to make the extra time possible.
The Exhibition style crit will be held as follows:
Des Space , move in at 2pm and set up to be ready by 2.30 pm
Day 24th March 2008 Monday
The crit is from 2.30pm till 5 pm exhibition style and there is an invited guest
who will show you some ppt at 5pm. He will dwell a bit on design and what he felt about your lamps (feedback)
The modus operandi is:
Hang or display your lamp and plug into a gangplug (u provide)
Do not switch on your lamp but indicate where the switch is by putting a sticker
Or pointer next to your lamp. We will switch on and view your lamp. Your lamp will do the talking (HCD usefulness)
And user friendliness will be determined by us looking at it. You will not be present and so cannot
Verbally tell us the lamp and how to use it. An A3 poster showing explaining the lamp and its use must be
pinned up. Also an A3 sized hand drawn rendering of your lamp must be shown. Your mind map, print out
of the tech drawing, concept sketches must be in a portfolio beside your item. A completed Des Mgt
File must also be present.
Remember the following as highlighted in the brief are required:
1. A4, filed typewritten brief stating the problem situation, defined and documented research of the target market and the profile of the user group.
2.Put the mind maps, mood board together with the portfolio
3. Project Management file is a must and will be graded.
4. Portfolio, bound, titled and annotated conceptual sketches on A2 size paper (all other sizes will be frowned upon and seen as inadequate & low level)
5. One A3 presentation board showing selected concept and why it was chosen, explaining its use.
6. Design drafting with sectional details, parts and exploded view of assembly with dimensions and production specifications and annotations of all parts, components and materials used. Put hard copy in porrtfolio
7. Maquettes for functional and form exploration, in cardboard or pink foam should be photographed and included in the portfolio
8. A3 coloured rendering of the proposed product with contextual references to be pasted on foam card and hanged on panel.
9. Highly finished, realistic & WORKING model to demonstrate design proposal and details.
Please bear in mind this is a 2 block long project and where an interim crit was also held to help you determine extent of work required. It is a 6 CU subject and you have also been given an extention to the confirmed deadline. This goes without saying that we hope a high degree of finished work is shown so that it helps confirms your readiness to move on to 2nd year. Please help yourself move to a higher platform and allow yourself a greater level of personal challenge.
You will not be in the Des Space during the grading and will come in only at 5pm to listen to our guest grader. The lamps must be removed from the Des Space after the Crit.
