Dear Students
1. We start another AY in a couple of days.
Orientation
2. To kick off the year, a fantastic freshman orientation programme is being planned. If you are not already in DOC, can I encourage you to play your part in welcoming the 500+ freshmen into our midst. Their early and perfect integration into our community will benefit us all.
“Work Hard, Play Hard” – 18 Apr 08
3. The sculpture is ready, a generous donation by the Chairman of our Board, Mr Seah Moon Ming. “Work Hard, Play Hard” will be unveiled by the Chairman himself at about 3pm (time - TBC) on 18 Apr 08. I would like to invite all students to join PCEO, staff and the 500+ freshmen at the West Gate for this momentous occasion.
Genesis
4. I will see the school at the TCC on 21 Apr 08, 9am to kick off the AY. Please be seated early as I would like to start the meeting on time. Latecomers will be ushered to a break-out room / LT to minimise movement and disruption to the meeting. The morning’s proceedings will be televised concurrently in the break-out room / LT.
5. Please co-operate with the ushers as we expect the seating arrangement to be challenging due to the large numbers of freshmen. Whatever the case, if you are present, ensure that your matric card is scanned. Simple lunch will also be provided after the meeting.
6. All students on SIP will need to apply for a day’s leave from their companies on 21 Apr 08. Please contact your supervising lecturers immediately. As each company is unique in practice, please pay attention to the company’s requirements and procedures for applying leave. Ensure that your host company is not inconvenienced unnecessarily by giving them ample notice of your impending absence. It is very important that all our SIP partners receive a consistent message: “That students need to attend an important comms session in the morning and also to complete their subject allocation exercise in the afternoon of 21 Apr 08”.
7. All students on OSIP or on overseas assignment on that day will be excused. Those excused should contact your CMs immediately to make arrangements for the completion of your add-drop exercise.
Security
8. As part of the efforts to enhance campus security, all rooms will be accessible via your matric card from 21 Apr 08. To minimise any inconvenience to you, please ensure that your matric card is working perfectly before that day.
9. Should you misplace your card, you must make a report at the One Stop Service Centre (OSC) immediately. This will ensure that no one will abuse your entry rights. We also need all the students to be extra vigilant. Together, we need to play our part in not allowing non-authorised persons to enter any card accessed area and to report any suspicious action/individuals by calling campus security at 6780-5999. These facilities belong to us and we have every right to keep it safe.
10. Cheers and all the best in the coming year.
